13:06 Interviewing at the Virtual World Job Fair
You don’t have to worry about sweaty palms or bad breath. But you do have to think about whether your avatar — a digital representative of yourself — knows how to walk, talk, and act appropriately. It’s a new experiment in job hunting: interviews for real-world jobs, conducted online in a 3D virtual world.
Guests
Hanah Cho, Reporter, The Baltimore Sun
Arie Ball, Vice President of Sourcing and Talent Acquisition, Sodexho
Steven Rothberg, President, CollegeRecruiter.com
Brenda Farrey, Virtual job fair interviewee

This is how I dressed my avatar to go to a scheduled interview at Sodexho.
I was standing in a podium which has the TMP logo for the Network In World Career Fair.

Here is the central or map location of the Career Fair with signs lined up indicating with red buttons for teleporting to each building represented.

Sodexho
This is the building where Sodexho, a Gaithersburg hospitality company, held their interviews. I was very impressed with their multi-representative organized approach for handling each person who showed up, also they had excellant media presentations and a well-rounded tour of their company aspects.
Microsoft Corp.
Microsoft had a couple of representatives handling interviews in a building at the Career Fair.
Hewlett-Packard Co.
Hewlett-Packard had a few representatives handling interviews in a building at the Career Fair.
Verizon Communications Inc.
Verizon had many representatives recruiting at the Career Fair. They were organized, friendly and very upbeat!
The man who interviewed me there, TimDaRecruiter McMillan, is the one who asked if I would like to partake in the radio interview!
T-Mobile
T-Mobile had several representatives handling interviews in a building at the Career Fair.
eBay Inc.
Even though I discovered eBay’s building after interview hours, one of their friendly representatives dropped in to welcome myself and others. She answered questions and was helpful.
An interesting thing happened just before I found eBay’s building – I mentioned to someone in passing that the Career Fair was about interviews for real jobs, which surprised this lady and so she went with me to find out more. She was under the impression that it was about inworld jobs only so she wasn’t interested until then. She commented that it was a good thing she listened!
Interview from The Baltimore Sun
The next day I returned to take snapshots of the buildings for use in this blog. When I was there I saw activity in the main building by the host company. They were having their own interview with members of the press from The Baltimore Sun and quietly invited me to sit in and observe.
